UNSWORTH SCHOOL - GROWTH PLAN - AUGUST 2008 - JULY 2011

Unsworth Elementary School enrolls just under 470 students from Kindergarten to Grade 6. As of August 2008 - 53% of the students are male while 47% are female. 4% of our students are aboriginal compared with 14% in the Chilliwack School District. 2% of Unsworth students have designated special needs compared with the district average of 9%. The 2008 school composition matrix which shows all 20 elementary schools lists Unsworth as 19/20 as at risk factor with 1/20 being the most at risk school and indicates that Unsworth has 16.77% of students at risk.
Our community demographics (source:2001 Canada Census) indicate we have 25% of families with annual income under $35,000.00 which is the same as the district average.
Unsworth Elementary has 90% of parents with secondary school graduation or higher while the district average is 79%. Unsworth has 11% single-parent families while the district average is 17%.
Unsworth Elementary is in the southwest corner of Chilliwack in a rural farming community (Keith Wilson and Unsworth Roads). Sub-divisions are beginning to be built to the eastern and southern parts of the attendance area. Many of the rural lands are disappearing.
Keith Wilson Road is becoming an extremely busy road. A traffic light has been placed at Peach road and Keith Wilson to help with students crossing into Webster Landing. A crosswalk has been painted across Keith Wilson road from Unsworth Road. As of November 2009 - a volunteer parent crossing guard has started. (if you're interested in helping out - phone Mr. Magneison)
